Advice on Saree from India, Please!?
I will be traveling to India soon, and I'm so excited to have a saree hand-made for me! I know very little about sarees, except that they are beautiful.
I really like the style of sari that has the short little blouse on top (exposing the abdomen from below the bustline to just above the waist). What is this style called? I am a young woman, and I want my saree to look sleek and sexy.
More generally-- Is there anything I should make sure the saree has, or does not have? I am referring to certain fabrics, cuts, built-in belts, accessories, etc., that I should ask for in order to get a beautiful, well-fitting, quality dress. I have a friend who said that I should ask to have a belt included, and that Bernarsi fabric is best. What do you think??
Also, any information on proper pricing (and the cost of shipping such an item to the US) that you happen to have off the top of your head would be much appreciated.
Thank you soooooo much!! I can't wait!!!

First thing you must go with your Indian friend to the stores to buy sarees. There are many variety in terms of fabrics and cost.
Yes, Banarasi is one smooth (satin like) fabric. Make sure you have a rich work on"pallu" the front of the saree that falls over your shoulder. But you will have to choose personally to decide on the designs.
There are Crepe, Cotton, Kanchivaram silk, Mysore Silk (Pure Silk, you can visit their web site: http://www.ksicsilk.com/ ) and many other fabrics available other than Banarasi.
There will not be any cuts for sarees, as they all come 6 yards in common. you will have to learn to wear them in different styles, most of the styles show the abdomen.
The belt your friend told is for an inner wear, an ankle lenght skirt on which you tie the saree.
Shipping will not be costly. It varies on wieght of the product and courier services.

Exposing below bustline and above waist is not any form of traditional style. the Fashion designer mad that style..
For sexy and sleek go for some fancy designs..crepe /georget shipon etc….they come in semi transparent shades.
Kanchipuram silk, mysore silk , banaras silk are are gorgeous, but not recommended for sexy appeal.
All sarrees are lenghty single piece full length about 5 .5 yards. No belt will be there.
the accessories are Blouse and petticoat (inner skirt). unless familier to wear it will be difficult and time consuming to wear. there should be some ornaments (bangles, ear rings, etc) depends on the occation.
But there are sarees made to wear just like skirts (pre-stiched sarees) also available for the young girls dont know how to wear saree , but wish to wear….

saree pricing starts from Rs.300 - Rs.3000000 ($1 approx Rs.45) depends on material and design work on it. designers saree price ranges Rs.3000-Rs.50,000 . shipping woul not be that expensive..
Guess some fabrics vareties (material) are restricted in US. Check for that.
