Do teens in India wear traditional clothes?

I know I must sound like such a American, but I want to know. And by the way, what is a salwar-kalmeez? And would wearing traditional clothes like that out in public be considered wierd or do they only wear clothes like that on special occasions? Are "half sarees" limited to southern India? What do teen girls wear in India? Is make-up considered appropriate? I just wanted to know cuz I think the traditional clothes in India are really pretty, with the bright colors and the delicate, ornate embroidery, even if they do look like they take a half hour just to put on.

Let me answer your questions one by one…

    what is a salwar-kalmeez?

Salwar-Kameez is an out fit for women, a two piece attire, Salwar is the "pant"…Kameez is the tunic….both have many styles and shapes and variations…..usually this attire is complete with scurf thrown over the shoulder….that is called "dupatta"

Urban and hip kids wear Salwar for special occasion and manage their daily core with more easy to manage dresses…may be a pair of Jeans and T-shirt. If you go to small towns, then Salwar is more appropriate than Jeans.

Half-Sarees, even being from India, I have never heard of it….sorry dear!

Make up is fine….every girl wants to look beautiful…so do you…

Your information is correct about Indian Clothes…they are really beautiful…..bright in colors….and on many of them you get "hand crafted" intricate embroidery..

teenagers in India not only wear salwar kameez i.e, chudidars and Saree's they also wear jeans ,3/4ths,skirts etc
very light makeup is preferable .if u stay in metropolitan cities in India u can wear all these.ya of course Indian traditional dresses look very pretty

well it all depends where u stay..teens of metros and big cities are comfy in western clothes tho they deck up traditionally in case of any festival or wedding..with light make up.in small towns n villages they wear traditional clothes like salwar kameez , ghagras (smwht like long skirts), n evn sarees.
as abt salwar kameez, its a combiation of a loose pant )the salwar) with a tunic (kameez).
I dunno much abt half sarees, they are mostly worn by village lasses in southern parts i guess.
heavy make up is not welcome, teens generally put on lighter shades.
traditional clothes are best suited for celebrations, n not for daily life…
i hope this resolves your queries..

It depends on where you stay. In cities like Mumbai..you would see teens wear everything that is seen in western countries. Many ppl wear traditional clothings everyday…it is not considered weird. Theres tons of young girls that wear make up in india. ohh it doesnt take half hour to put the salwar-kameez on…only about 15 mins. :]

i am a teen in america and i wear all these……….i wear salwar-kameezs and even half-saris (they r usually for south indians) u may think im the way traditional indian or w/e but im really not…i just think half-saris r really pretty…….in fact me and my sis (also a teen) and my friend (also a teen) just wore them bout three weeks ago for a big indian party…….yea they do take bout a half-hour 2 put on but salwar-kameezes usually don't take as long………when i went 2 india i saw probably the majority wearing "traditional" indian clothes in south india and less in north india…..not trying 2 b sterotypical or nything but in general north indians r more western…….and makeup is usually just based on personal preference….some never wear any, some wear it only 2 parties and some wear it everyday and once again shades and tat kinda stuf tend 2 b lighter but on the occasion u will see darker shades….sorry i couldnt show u pictures but if u google "indian dresses" or "traditional indian dresses" u'll find tons of pictures with labels and ull find dresses outside of salwaar-kammezes and half-saris such as gagra cholis or lehengas and others
