Yes unfortunately not many Indians wear them enough! Our celebs only wear gowns with just 2-3 and maybe the elderly ladies will actually wear sarees.

I think they’re lovely! They’re always such vibrant and outstanding colours and can look gorgeous if you wear it right.

They are very nice, and I have a couple, one was for a friend’s wedding and another is a souvenir from India; but for my very active lifestyle they are thoroughly impractical. I prefer my far more practical western clothes with their greater variety of styles for different occasions from sports and recreation to business and evening. To wear a sari everyday for me would be like trying to wear a strapless evening dress with a train all day. I can’t imagine my early morning bike ride on the forest trails of Milton wearing a sari, nor can imagine them on the subway, those tails would get caught in the escalator going out of the subway, They would be too bright and glitzy for a meeting with bankers and buyers, tennis at lunch would be impossible and a sari would be a safety hazard while mowing the lawn. And in the winter… A sari would not be warm or offer any protection from snow, ice or wind. Elegant, maybe, good-looking sure -but that’s not always the main criteria for wearing something. Western clothes gives me tank tops, a hoodie and shorts for biking, a nice dress and jacket for work, tennis dress for tennis and jeans and sneakers for lawn mowing and the evening barbecue. I’ll stick with the western clothes.

Saris are beautiful but impractical in most cases. My wife will wear them at formal functions, many beautiful colors and a bare midriff, what’s not to like. The worst is when we go to a western wedding and she walks in with a beautiful sari, I don’t think my sister-in-law ever forgave her.
