Dubai and sharjah - Gulfnews?

Today, Sharjah have banned the "Lungi" in public. The Lungi is a modest garment wrapped around the waist and covering your legs upto your toes. This is considered by the authorities as offensive ??

Scroll down below to the Dubai Fashion week and this is what you get

"His six-yards of sheer, slithering fabric may look familiar, but his bold blouses were the highlight"

I think they have decided because sometimes people fold the normal "lungi" which is usually up-to ankles to a different position and fold it above their knees specially in summer time which brings it to same position as a very short SHORTs which definitely doesnt seems fine specially when you are with your family and the guy is almost like in a beach suit and staring at your family.
Anyway it is not a formal dress for going to work or some official type and people usually wear it when they are at home or near home and when they are relaxed so i dont think it will make any difference as Shajah have banned it only in public places.

To me it sounds that a police officer was picking on a certain person only. Maybe he had a bad day?
Do you still remember when some younsters were warned by the police not to wear any golden jewelleries? Same thing.

    Identity Crises!!
They don’t know what’s right or wrong anymore. On 1 side they want to please tourists and foreign business and on the other hand they want to satisfy their own population (locals)
If a Emirati complains about a decent issue the whole UAE is in crises. 80% expats have to adjust to 20% locals and that cannot go always as we wanted to see.

I assume you already know Sharjah is conservative and it is expected that they don’t consider people walking around malls in bras as modest. Everyone knew this even without a law to make it clear.

@hans , even that 80% half of them are Muslim or at least have family oriented views on these things.
