If it were possible there would be many foreigners living here.
The first obsticle is getting a residency or working visa. You can’t work here on a tourist visa.
Unless you have some special skill with a degree you can forget about a working visa.
Besides why pay a foreigner $ wages when they can hire a local who will work 10 hours a day 6 days a week for $5 a day ?
There is an old saying among us foreigners that live here. Want to make a small fortune in the Philippines ? You start by investing a big fortune. I have lived here over 8 years and have yet to see any business here worth investing in. Besides the one sided rules they have like foreigners can only own 40% of a business. I have seeen many foreigners loose their shirt and more because their local partners stole every asset in the business and evan had the balls to get loans out in the business name only to leave the foreigner holding the bag.
Yes us older guys living here are all on pensions, myself included.

If you are not a Filipino , FORGET IT ! Invest only what you can throw away .
If you have been there maybe you have noticed older gents only living there , none are making money in Philippines . They are getting a pension or Social Security .

if you want to go the expensive and unprofitable way run a call center..the more profitable business there is running a GRO bar (girls that strip and are side time hookers) or a Strip Club. If you want to attract business get younger girls esp. late teens or early 20s that are making ends meet to support them in school, you can attract all the "richer" filipino men..

Read what Oneiloilokano said, it’s the truth.
If you want to make a living in The Philippines then have investments overseas and live off those. You cannot make a serious living there and there are heaps of ex-pat sites like http://retirephilippines.wetpaint.com/ that will tell you this.

Oneiloilokano has the most realistic and apparent advice here…
If you are determined enough to jump into this, better have big bucks in your credit first!
G’luck.
