Indian Ladies — Desis — How do you stay cool in hot weather?

This is a serious question, so please answer seriously. Thanks. I am interested to know how Indian women stay cool when the temperatures are so hot. Do you wear the long skirts and .... what? Tank tops like we would in the US? Or??? I mean, sometimes a kurti is too hot! And all the fabric in both a salwar khameez and a sari wrapped around when it's so hot -- ack. Help. Yes, I realize they've managed and survived for centuries, and I am wondering what perhaps Indian women are wearing now. THANK YOU

Cotton helps absorb the sweat which is essential to keep the body cool and white reflects the heat so a good choice would be white or light floral cotton clothing. Could be a kurta/Tshirt with jeans, or salwar. This was from a mens perspective but I guess whatever keeps you cool, comfy and makes you feel good will keep the sun at bay for sure.

These days, only older India women wear sari’s everyday (6 yards of cloth wrapped around). They usually wear cotton saries during summer. Younger women, usually, wear saris during special occasions such a wedding.

Most Indian women have switched to salwar khameez in last 15 years and they wear cotton during summer. As a result of globalization with the increased influence of U.S. culture, many younger women have switched to jeans & pants/tops. Skirts and dresses are still rare and usually wore in large metropolitan cities. Jeans/pants with tops are fairly common among the 300 million middle class Indians.

Muslim Indian women of lower income (& conservative) group wear black burka (Veil) that could be quite hot during summer.

Your question could be further elaborated; How could anyone manage without air-conditioning/cooler in many parts of India where the temperature climbs to 120 degree?
