Which is better for lightweight fabric: short/small stitches or long/large ones?

I'm using a lightweight sari fabric to make a skirt, and I'm curious what size stitch would be better to use; something short/small, or something long/big?

Generally shorter stitches on lighter fabrics. Also a thinner thread and thinner needle. I’d probably use something like lingerie thread if I could find a color match, and probably about a size 8/60 or 10/70 sharp needle.

If you get puckering when you do some test stitching, look here to figure out what’s causing it and how to fix it: http://www.amefird.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/Minimizing-Seam-Puckering-2-5-10.pdf

It depends on your tention, needle, and thread you are using. do a test run. I do small short stitches with less tention and not so heavy thread on light weight fabrics
