Why kids have a habit of touching their mom’s belly?
in India where most of the woman wear saree at home the kids have the habit of touching their mom's belly by sliding their hands under the saree pallu. isnt it unusual but this habit seems to be with a large of no. children ,it seems as if they just loves to put a hand over their mom's belly .
but the child habit of touching the mom's belly continues even when the child start going to school and sometimes even when they are more than 10 yrs old or so

It’s warm and soft and has that great mom smell. My son lifts up my shirt to rub my belly all the time. It’s comforting.

Just makes them feel close to Mom…:) My youngest did that a few times and then said, "Ohh.look Mommy…I can make bread with the dough tummy." HAH…

It’s home to them. My 8 month old likes to put his hands down mine and daddys shirt.

Maybe it’s something to do with where a mother carries a baby when pregnant. Or if they do it to their birth mother, that that is where they once were. Sorry if im no help, i guess it’s just comforting to them.

It may just be a way for the child to "comfort" themselves with their mom’s. Plus, when they are little-3 yrs old., when they reach up, the belly is withing reach, compared to the neck to put their arms around. Plus, different culture.

it feel safe to touch your mom belly, we all live in their belly for nine months, and plus it soft, and feel fun to lol my sis is 12 and she still huge & touch my mom belly lol

It’s a gesture of affection, in my opinion. They are short people and can’t put an arm around a shoulder or caress a cheek, so they rub your belly.

Some doctors will tell you that they just desire the touch of their mothers skin…that closeness that only comes from the intimate mother and child bonding when they are as close as they can get to one another. It is more of a sign of affection than anything else and absolutely nothing to worry about.
